A wetland of about 100 hectares in Villa Literno, reclaimed from poaching and precious for migratory birds.

On the Domitian coast, north of Lago Patria, the Oasi delle Soglitelle is an artificial wetland of about 100 hectares in the municipality of Villa Literno, annexed to the Foce Volturno – Costa di Licola nature reserve. The area was part of a vast marsh and in the 1970s had been turned into pools used illegally by poachers. In 2004 it was seized and later acquired by the municipality, which fenced it off.Reopened to the public in 2018, it can now be visited only on guided tours on special occasions. Above all we like its role for the migratory birds that travel up the Tyrrhenian coast from Africa: here you can watch flamingos, herons, kingfishers, harriers, Kentish plovers, shovelers and wigeons. We suggest bringing binoculars and checking the next opening dates.
