Fescina in Quarto

Roman necropolis in Quarto with the spired mausoleum known as Fescina and a triclinium for funeral banquets.

Along the ancient road near Via Campana lies a fenced Roman necropolis. Its oldest monument is the mausoleum known as "Fescina": a tall circular drum in opus reticulatum, topped by a pyramidal spire.We are intrigued by the open-air triclinium, with three couches around a central table: ritual meals were eaten here on the anniversaries of the dead. In front of the mausoleum stood another, two-storey one.
