The ruins of a church built inside a large natural cave below the Villa Cimbrone plateau, linked to the lime workers.

Along the stepped path at the foot of the Villa Cimbrone plateau you come across what remains of a church built entirely inside a wide natural cave. Today it is a ruin closed to the public and can be admired from outside, but it once had three altars and held a precious relic of Saint Barbara, donated in 1435 and now kept in the Cathedral Museum. We are fascinated by the link between the church and the working landscape: not far away you can still see the remains of an old lime kiln. Saint Barbara, protector of those who work with fire, watched over these very workers. We recommend combining the stop with a walk towards the Cimbrone.
