Quaglietta Castle

Lower down than the main village, the hamlet of Quaglietta guards a medieval fortress of Lombard origin, perched on a rocky spur overlooking the Sele valley. The castle has a quadrilateral plan and a main defensive tower, while around it clusters a small village built entirely of stone, made of alleys and stairways.We are struck by the fact that, while the 1980 earthquake destroyed most of Calabritto's historic buildings, the castle and village of Quaglietta survived the tremors. The complex was later largely restored with European funds. We suggest climbing up here at a leisurely pace to enjoy the view and the atmosphere of a medieval village that can still be clearly read.
