The ruins of Senerchia's Lombard castle, built between the 8th and 9th centuries to defend Conza, above the Sele valley.

The castle of Senerchia was built by the Lombards between the 8th and 9th centuries to defend the city of Conza, then an important economic and strategic centre. The Sinerchia family held the village for about three centuries, linking their name to it. We like to imagine the fortress as a sentinel on the routes connecting Irpinia to the Sele plain.Today ruins remain of the fortress, in a high position above the Sele valley, not far from the remains of the old village devastated by the 1980 earthquake. We recommend hiking boots: the last stretch of the climb is demanding, but the view repays the effort.
