17th-century palazzo in Cerreto Sannita, built for a woollen-cloth merchant, with balconies on corbels and a rusticated portal.

Among the residences that tell the story of the rebuilding of Cerreto Sannita after the 1688 earthquake, Palazzo Giordani was completed by 1695 by Francesco Giordani, a woollen-cloth merchant. We like it because its façade has remained almost unchanged over the centuries, enhanced by roughcast decorations in the plaster that give it a discreet elegance. We recommend looking up at the balconies, supported by corbels of dressed stone and closed by bulging iron railings with torch holders. The cushion-rusticated portal appears off-centre: it is the sign of the sale of the left wing shortly after construction. An ideal stop while strolling among the historic palazzi of Cerreto's centre.
