In the ancient Arsenal of the Republic of Amalfi, a museum devoted to the compass, the Tabula de Amalpha and the history of the maritime duchy.

Opened in 2022 in the spaces of the maritime Republic's Arsenal, this museum tells the story of Amalfi when it was a Mediterranean power. There are instruments for nautical navigation, including a magnetic compass in boxwood, original parchments from the 11th–13th centuries and the famous Tabula de Amalpha, a cornerstone of maritime law.We love the section on sunken treasures, with finds recovered from the seabed, and the 3D reconstruction of the medieval town. Don't miss the restored galleon Vittoria, with which Amalfi won the first Regatta of the Ancient Maritime Republics. We suggest visiting before strolling around the centre, so you see the town with fresh eyes.
