Teora's mother church, rebuilt in 1981–83 by Giorgio Grassi beside the ruin of the church destroyed by the earthquake.
The mother church of San Nicola di Mira tells the story of Teora's rebirth after the 1980 earthquake, which razed the old church to the ground. The new building was designed between 1981 and 1983 by the architects Giorgio Grassi and Edoardo Guazzoni, who kept its orientation and placed it beside the remains of the previous church.We like its cross-shaped plan, with a large central nave and a raised transept that highlights the altar, while the bell tower stands at the centre of the façade. The ruin of the old church has become a churchyard open to the landscape. Inside are works and canvases recovered from the collapsed churches: we suggest giving it a careful visit.
