Sanctuary of Lioni's patron saint, rebuilt several times after earthquakes, with a portal and colonnade from 1785.
In the 16th century a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel stood here; it was destroyed by the 1626 earthquake and rebuilt. During the plague of 1656 the little church and the land around it received the victims of the epidemic, and that was when devotion to St Roch was born.After the 1732 earthquake the church was rebuilt larger in 1737, dedicated to the saint who had freed the town from the plague, and in 1774 St Roch became patron of Lioni. We recommend pausing at the portal and colonnade added in 1785 along with the side aisles: they seem to us the symbol of the people of Lioni's affection for this place.
