Nature reserve in the Partenio Mountains at Pannarano, with beech woods, springs and rich wildlife, where the Apennine wolf has returned.
In the Partenio Mountains, in the territory of Pannarano, lies the Oasi Montagna di Sopra, established in 2000 within the Partenio Regional Park. It rises from about 800 to almost 1,600 metres through woods of beech, holly, yew and alder, with holm oak on the ridges. There are many springs, including the Acqua delle Vene, near which there is an equipped refuge.We are fascinated by its biodiversity: among the rare species the martagon lily, the symbol of the reserve, stands out. Buzzards, sparrowhawks, red kites and peregrine falcons circle overhead, while foxes, stone martens, badgers and a subspecies of fire salamander live in the woods. In recent years the return of the Apennine wolf has also been confirmed. We recommend bringing binoculars and hiking boots.
