A village in the Monti Lattari with a long medieval history, linked to the Republic of Amalfi and defended by a 13th-century castle.

The history of Pimonte begins around the 10th century, when the inhabitants of the Stabiae plain sought refuge in the mountains, building watchtowers and defences. Later this mountain area came under the control of Amalfi, then a powerful maritime republic, and remained tied to the Amalfi territory even after its decline, under the Normans.Frederick II decreed that Pimonte should remain royal property, governed by its own mayors and judges. In 1230 the castle was built at Bellovedere, guarding the valley. We like strolling through the streets of the centre starting from Piazza Roma, imagining the centuries when this village was a strategic outpost between the coast and the mountains.
