The de Guevara castle of Savignano Irpino, from the Norman period, partly restored and now used as a conference centre.
The castle of Savignano Irpino dates from the Norman period and was part of a wider defensive system that encircled the whole medieval village. Even earlier, between the 7th and 8th centuries, the settlement was protected by the walls of the Castrum Sabinianum, later strengthened by the Normans. The castle was thus part of an old and complex defensive system designed to protect a strategically placed village.Today the castle, known as the de Guevara castle, has been partly restored and its interiors have been turned into a conference centre. We suggest reaching it on a stroll through the historic centre, looking at what remains of the medieval defensive line: we love seeing an old building come back to life thanks to new public uses, open to the community and visitors.
