The Macellum of Pozzuoli, known as the Temple of Serapis, symbol of the bradyseism of the Campi Flegrei.
The so-called Temple of Serapis was in fact the public market, the macellum, of Roman Pozzuoli. Its name comes from a statue of the god Serapis found during the excavations. The three great columns bear the marks of date mussels: proof that the ground sank below sea level and then rose again, because of the phenomenon of bradyseism.
