Rock sanctuary at Carpineto, Fisciano, dedicated to the Archangel, with a Madonna Platytera in the Byzantine tradition.

In the hamlet of Carpineto, the sanctuary of San Michele di Mezzo is an evocative rock church dedicated to the Archangel. Its origins lie in the early centuries of Christianity's spread in Campania, when natural caves became places of prayer.Reopened to the faithful in 2011, the sanctuary holds above the lower altar an image of the Virgin and Child of the Madonna Platytera type, typical of Byzantine iconography. We like the hushed atmosphere of the rock; we suggest visiting without hurry and then continuing along the trails of the Fisciano hills.
