Church of the Santissima Annunziata in Cava de' Tirreni

  • Visit: about 20 min
  • 325 m

On the slope of Monte Castello, Cava's Annunziata complex dates from 1506 and holds a replica of the Lourdes grotto.

On the south-eastern slope of Monte Castello, in the hamlet named after it, stands the complex of the Santissima Annunziata. Its origins date back to 1506, and over the centuries it has been enlarged and transformed: besides the church it includes the sacristy, the bell tower, a Baroque chapel dedicated to St Andrew and the old monastery with its cloister and oratory. We like the hushed atmosphere here, a regular destination for the faithful and pilgrims. Many come up above all for the so-called "little Lourdes", a replica of the famous French grotto. We suggest spending a few minutes in the open spaces around the complex too, from which the view sweeps over the Metelliana valley.
