17th-century Latin-cross church on Piazza d'Arezzo in Pagani, with a 17th-century wooden statue of Our Lady of Sorrows.

On Piazza d'Arezzo, in Pagani, stands the Church of the Santissima Addolorata, already existing in 1632 and originally dedicated to St Charles Borromeo. Served first by the Oratorians and then by the Piarist fathers, it took its present title in 1814, becoming linked to devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows. The Latin-cross interior holds an 18th-century canvas, a 17th-century wooden statue of the Addolorata and an old organ. We like stepping in here for a quiet stop during a walk through the historic centre of Pagani, a town rich in churches and religious traditions; we suggest pairing it with the other places of worship along the Corso and the square.
