Tocco Caudio sanctuary dedicated to the physician saints, born from a 17th-century chapel and reconsecrated in 1707; feast in late September.
The Sanctuary of Saints Cosmas and Damian is the heart of devotion in Tocco Caudio. Tradition tells that the two physician saints appeared to a young mute shepherd, gave him back his speech and asked for a church in their honour. In 1618 the chapel was entrusted to the community and, thanks to the offerings of the faithful, it was enlarged several times until its reconsecration in 1707.Inside we find a rectangular plan with a nave and two aisles, a lunetted vault and the presbytery at the end of the nave. We recommend looking at the altarpiece with the Madonna, the Child and the two saints, by an unknown artist. The best time to come is the feast from 25 to 28 September.
