Parish church of Sant'Angelo d'Alife, already standing in the 15th century and renovated in the 18th, with a marble altar and canvases by Raffaele Gioia.

The Church of Santa Maria della Valle is the parish church of Sant'Angelo d'Alife, so called to distinguish it from the old Santa Maria a castello on the Rupe Canina. It stands on Via Santa Maria, next to the chapel of Sant'Antonio Abate. It already existed in the early 15th century, but its present appearance dates from the 18th. The Neoclassical façade has a portal and base in local limestone and two niches either side of the entrance.Inside, we like lingering over the Neapolitan-made polychrome marble altar, dated 1747, and the canvases painted in 1789 by Raffaele Gioia, showing the Last Supper, the Adoration of the Shepherds and the Lamentation over the Dead Christ. The 17th-century bell tower sits between the chapel and the sacristy. We suggest visiting the church and chapel together, two buildings that long shared their history.
