Church of Santa Maria del Quadriviale

  • Visit: about 20 min
  • 275 m

In the hamlet of San Pietro in Cava, Santa Maria del Quadriviale has stood at a crossroads since the 14th century, with a six-tier bell tower.

Its very name tells us its position: Santa Maria del Quadriviale stands at the junction of four roads, in the hamlet of San Pietro in Cava de' Tirreni. The church was built around 1383 and in the 16th century received the façade we still see today. We are struck by the six-tier bell tower, which rises above the surrounding houses. Next to the church are an oratory and an old pilgrims' hospice, a sign that this crossroads was an important stopping point for those travelling through the valley. We suggest combining the visit with the nearby Church of San Pietro a Siepi, in the same hamlet.
