Church of Santa Maria Assunta in Recale

  • Visit: about 20 min

Recale's parish church dedicated to the Assumption, founded in the early 17th century and now markedly Neoclassical in appearance.

The Church of Santa Maria Assunta is one of the two religious focal points of Recale, in the diocese of Caserta. The parish was established in 1621, in the same years as the building was constructed, dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin. We like to think that for more than four centuries this church has accompanied the daily life of the community, in a town on the Caserta plain with an old urban fabric. What we see today is the result of successive transformations: the present layout shows a strong Neoclassical imprint, with composed, balanced lines. The interior was restored in the 1990s, while more recent works have also involved the exterior. We suggest a stop during a visit to Recale, perhaps combined with a stroll through the historic centre.
