Church of Sant'Anna in Cerreto Sannita

15th-century church in Cerreto Sannita, once dedicated to Our Lady of Loreto, enlarged in 1919 with a transept and dome.
The Church of Sant'Anna in Cerreto Sannita dates, according to historical tradition, to 1460. In the 17th century it was dedicated to Our Lady of Loreto and, after the 1688 earthquake, which damaged it only slightly, it even served as the cathedral for a few months. It remained small until 1919, when it was enlarged with a transept, apse and dome.The gabled façade is flanked by the little house of the former hermit. Above the portal we like the shrine in Cerreto ceramic depicting the Holy House of Loreto, a gift from emigrants in Montréal in 2000. Inside, on a Latin-cross plan with timber trusses, we find a sculpture of St Anne with the Virgin and a dark-faced Madonna of Loreto. Next to the church there is a green area for a break.
