Castle
Marquis's Castle of Auletta
Il castello di Auletta, che resistette alle truppe di Carlo V e ospitò Umberto II.
Church · Auletta (SA)

Auletta's parish church, documented in the 14th century: destroyed by the 1857 earthquake, only its bell tower was rebuilt, later altered after 1980.
In Auletta, the Church of San Nicola di Mira is already documented in the 14th century, together with the Chapel of the Circumcision outside the walls. Its history has been marked by earthquakes: the 1857 quake destroyed it and only the bell tower was rebuilt, its upper part altered again after the 1980 earthquake.Today it is the seat of the parish of San Nicola di Mira. Inside, we are intrigued by a plaque of 1750 with a Latin inscription honouring the physician De Maffutiis. We suggest combining the visit with a stroll through the village, as far as the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie beside the marquis's castle.
