Early 16th-century chapel around which the old village grew, once flanked by a small hospice.

This chapel was in all likelihood built at the beginning of the 16th century and is tied to the very origins of Monte San Giacomo. It is thought that the first core of the village developed around it, in the area between the Fabbrica and Castello localities, near the watercourse. We like discovering how a small building gave shape to a town.Dedicated to St Nicholas of Tolentino, the little church also had a guesthouse: a document of 1574, listing all the religious buildings in the area, describes it as a church with an attached hospital. It also owned vegetable gardens and vineyards nearby. We recommend looking at it as you stroll through the oldest part of the village.
