The largest catacombs in southern Italy, in the Sanità district, with early Christian frescoes.

The catacombs extend over two levels carved into the tuff of the Capodimonte hill and received the burial of Saint Januarius. You can see underground basilicas, bishops' tombs and frescoes including some of the oldest portraits of the saint.Today the tours are run by young people from the Sanità district, whose work has brought the neighbourhood back to life. The ticket usually also includes the Catacombs of San Gaudioso.
