The catacombs beneath the Basilica della Sanità, with remains of frescoes and 17th-century burials.

The catacombs take their name from Saint Gaudiosus, an African bishop who came to Naples in the 5th century and was buried here. They lie beneath the Basilica of Santa Maria della Sanità.You can see early Christian mosaics and frescoes and the unusual 17th-century decorations, with skulls set into the walls. Tours are run by young people from the neighbourhood.
