10th-century castle overlooking the Garigliano valley, once owned by Montecassino and Vittoria Colonna, now municipal property.

The Castle of Rocca d'Evandro stands at the top of the town and dominates the broad Garigliano valley, between the Aurunci mountains, Monte Cairo and the Mainarde. Built around the 10th century, it is already mentioned in a document of 961 and, owing to its strategic position, was long fought over; in the 14th century it passed to the abbey of Montecassino. Its lords included Ettore Fieramosca and the poet Vittoria Colonna, who received it from Charles V after 1534, while the last feudal lords were the Cedronio family. In 1980 the municipality bought it to safeguard it, and restoration began in 1983. We suggest climbing up here for the panorama, which alone is worth the visit.
