Capuchin Convent in Sicignano degli Alburni

In the Grottapagnano area stands the Capuchin Convent, built between 1572 and 1578, with a church consecrated in 1592 to the Madonna degli Angeli. Closed to worship in 1861, it became a boarding school, then a grammar school and high school until 1973, and was also known as a centre for theological studies. Today it is not open to the public and can be admired from the outside.Its works, including the canvas of Santa Maria degli Angeli crushing the serpent, beneath which an older one was discovered, the 1834 organ and a statue of St Anthony, are now in the church of San Matteo e Santa Margherita. We like to recall the rite of the thirteen days in June, with prayers and lilies offered to the saint.
