Protected area since 1977 of about 268 hectares, a coastal pine forest with Mediterranean scrub on the sands of the Volturno.

Established in 1977, this state reserve protects about 268 hectares of coastal plain formed by the alluvial sands carried by the Volturno river. We like walking in this strip of nature, which preserves a typical example of Mediterranean scrub a short distance from the sea.The tree layer is dominated by stone pine, maritime pine and holm oak, while juniper, phillyrea, myrtle and climbing plants grow among the shrubs. The wildlife includes the long-eared owl, the blackbird and the nightingale, along with reptiles such as the four-lined snake, the grass snake and the viper. We recommend comfortable shoes and binoculars for birdwatching.
