Hunting lodge commissioned by Frederick II of Swabia on the Cubante hill in Calvi, later fortified with towers by the Angevins.

On the top of a hill overlooking the River Calore, in the Cubante area of Calvi, stands the Casino del Principe, also known as Palazzo del Cubante. It was built by Frederick II of Swabia as a hunting lodge, probably in the early 1240s. Charles of Anjou later transformed it by adding defensive towers.Having passed through various feudal lords, from 1593 it belonged to the Spinelli family, hence its current name; in the 19th century it was divided up and turned into a farmhouse. The building has an almost square plan in river-cobble masonry, with four Angevin towers, arched windows and tuff oculi. Today it is in a state of disrepair, but since 1989 it has been protected as a site of special interest. We like to admire it in its landscape.
