Late 12th-century church just outside the historic centre, with a Renaissance portal and a 15th-century enthroned Madonna.

A short distance from the Porta della Terra, just outside Sicignano's historic centre, stands the church of Santa Maria del Serrone, dating from the late 12th century. In the past hamlets and lands depended on it, in an area where hides were tanned and mulberries grown. Long left in ruins, it was restored in 2012 thanks to the commitment of local people. We recommend looking at the Renaissance portal and, inside, the single hall with its round arch towards the transept. In the apse we are struck by the enthroned Madonna and Child, a 15th-century sculpture in Byzantine taste, holding a globe in her right hand as a symbol of royalty.
