Large basilica on via Toledo, opposite Palazzo Doria d'Angri, renovated in the 18th century to a design chosen by Luigi Vanvitelli.

On via Toledo, in piazza Sette Settembre opposite Palazzo Doria d'Angri, stands the basilica of the Spirito Santo. It began in 1562 as a small church beside two music conservatories run by the confraternities of the Bianchi and the Verdi, which took in poor girls. It was enlarged between 1572 and 1576 and renovated in the mid-18th century: in 1754 Luigi Vanvitelli chose Mario Gioffredo's design from four proposals. The result is a spacious, light-filled interior, among the most solemn on the street.
