Aresta Astronomical Observatory

At the top of the Alburni, at about 1,300 metres and inside the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park, stands the Aresta Astronomical Observatory. We like its story: it grew out of an old casone, once a shelter for shepherds and herdsmen, set in the green plateaus, and is now considered one of the largest amateur observatories in Italy.Expert enthusiasts have trained young people able to operate the telescope, run courses and tell the story of the sky on observation evenings. School groups of all levels often come here, with projections of astronomical images, direct observation and astrophotography. We recommend an evening up here, far from the lights, to look at the stars.
