In Baselice a small museum gathers fossils from the Fortore valley and objects of local rural tradition.

In the village of Baselice, in the heart of the Fortore, a small palaeontological museum tells of a very distant past, when these hills were covered by the sea. Its display cases hold fossils found in the Fortore valley: petrified algae, shells and molluscs that help explain how the landscape we see today from the village viewpoints was formed.Alongside the fossil section, the museum keeps a collection of objects and clothing linked to the valley's rural tradition, recently restored. We like this pairing of the history of the earth and the history of the people who worked it. We suggest checking opening times in advance and combining the visit with a stroll through Baselice's historic centre.
