A 4th-century BC rock carving in the Alburni depicting a warrior about to hurl his spear, with a sacrificial basin nearby.

In the heart of the Alburni mountains, at Costa Palomba, awaits one of the most evocative finds in the territory of Sant'Angelo a Fasanella: the Antece, a figure carved directly into the rock in the 4th century BC. According to tradition, the name means ancient or motionless, which captures well the idea of this stone sentinel that has stood there for centuries. The relief shows a warrior in a short tunic, caught just as he is about to throw the spear he grips in his right hand. We also recommend looking for the sacrificial basin carved nearby, which adds charm and mystery to the visit. A perfect destination for those who love combining mountain walking and archaeology.
