The All Saints' weekend in Castelcivita, a village in the Cilento National Park famous for its caves, is devoted to the mountain potato, grown high up on the Alburni slopes and prized for its flavour and texture.

In the old town the stalls serve potatoes every which way: baked and fried, in gnocchi, savoury pies and timballi, with local cheeses and cured meats. The squares host craft displays and folk music. Entry is free.

Our tip: arrive in the morning to visit the Castelcivita Caves, among the largest in southern Italy, then head up to the village for lunch or dinner.
