A small church with a stucco façade on the square of the Certosa di San Martino, built for women who were barred from the cloister.

The rule of the Carthusian order forbade women from entering the enclosed monastery. To let them take part in religious life too, this little church was built, which is why it is known as the Women's Church. It is a detail that tells us a lot about everyday life around the great Charterhouse. It is reached from the square in front of the Certosa di San Martino, with an entrance entirely separate from the monastic complex. The simple stucco-clad façade barely stands out among the surrounding buildings: we suggest looking for it while strolling on the Vomero hill before or after visiting the Certosa.
