Remains of a large 1st-century BC Roman seaside villa in Torre del Greco, partly buried by the eruption of 79.

Villa Sora is a Roman seaside villa built in the first half of the 1st century BC and inhabited until AD 79. It must have been more than 200 metres long and included, on the east side, a large apsed hall, perhaps a private basilica.Walls in opus reticulatum and cocciopesto floors survive. As at Pompeii and Herculaneum, the eruption of Vesuvius swept everything away here too, and part of the villa was buried by lava. We like discovering this lesser-known side of the Vesuvian area.
