A 1st-century BC Roman seaside villa laid out in terraces towards the sea, with baths, a peristyle, mosaics and a sophisticated water system.

On the Santa Croce hill in Sapri you can discover the remains of a large Roman seaside villa, built at the end of the Republican period and used until the 5th century AD. It covered about 7,000 square metres on terraces descending towards the sea, where there was probably a landing place. Already known in the 18th century, it has suffered much plundering, but still holds great charm. We especially like the colonnaded peristyle in cocciopesto with mosaic tesserae, beside the baths, with a garden and a marble-clad fountain. We recommend noticing the water channelling system, still working, and the visible lead pipes. The covered rooms show mosaic floors and Fourth Style paintings.
