Sapri's mother church, dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, overlooks Piazza Plebiscito, a stone's throw from the Well of San Vito.
In the heart of Sapri, on Piazza Plebiscito, stands the mother church of the Immaculate Conception, one of the two parishes of this town on the Gulf of Policastro. For us it is the ideal starting point for exploring the historic centre: from here you reach in a few minutes the seafront and the little streets of the oldest quarter, where life still moves at the gentle pace of seaside towns.We suggest walking round behind the church to the Well of San Vito, in the Marinella district: tradition says the patron saint purified its water, at the time the town's only source. We like coming back in mid-June, when for the saint's feast the surrounding streets are coloured with flower carpets made by the residents, a simple and heartfelt spectacle.
