The most complete Roman baths of Neapolis, preserved inside the 14th-century monastery of Santa Chiara.

Inside the 14th-century monastery of Santa Chiara lies a Roman bath complex that is the most complete example of baths documented so far in ancient Neapolis. The area, outside the Greco-Roman walls, became a residential district with public buildings from the 1st century AD and was incorporated into the city when the walls were extended in 440.The complex covers more than 900 square metres and dates from the second half of the 1st century AD; it remained in use until late antiquity, when it was extensively rebuilt. We like to think that the main entrance opened onto the ancient decumanus, the same route as today's Via Benedetto Croce.
