  • Visit: about 50 min

18th-century palazzo by Ferdinando Sanfelice in Pizzofalcone, with one of the most beautiful monumental staircases in Naples.

On via Monte di Dio, on the Pizzofalcone hill, Palazzo Serra di Cassano was built between the 1710s and 1720s by Ferdinando Sanfelice for the family of Genoese origin. Its masterpiece is the monumental staircase, imposing and scenographic. The main door on via Egiziaca was closed by the duke as a sign of mourning after the execution of his son Gennaro, a patriot of 1799. Today it houses the Italian Institute for Philosophical Studies.
