A large Rationalist travertine building designed by Cesare Bazzani in 1936 on the old Angevin pier of the port of Naples.

On the old Angevin pier stands the Maritime Station, built to welcome travellers arriving at and departing from the port. The old harbour had already been enlarged after Italian Unification, but it was in the 1930s that the city decided to give itself a truly monumental building, whose bulk would close off the view running down from Piazza Municipio to the sea.The design is by Cesare Bazzani, who in 1936 drew an imposing volume clad in travertine following the canons of Rationalist architecture. We like viewing it from the port, where its dialogue with the historic core of the harbour is clear. Built for passengers, today the building also hosts conferences, shops and cultural events.
