Ancient Casaurea, which grew up around a Benedictine hospice and two oratories among fertile fields a few miles from Naples.

The historic centre of Casoria holds the origins of an ancient town, once called Casaurea, perhaps for the beauty and fertility of its countryside. It lies about four miles from Naples and we like discovering its history while strolling through its squares.According to tradition, in the 6th century the family of Saint Maurus, a disciple of Saint Benedict, donated some land to the monks of Montecassino, who built two oratories and a hospice there. Farmers settled around these buildings, two parishes dedicated to Saint Maurus and Saint Benedict were born, and as the two villages grew they merged into today's town. We recommend visiting its historic churches.
