Rock shelter 80 metres above the sea, inhabited between 14,000 and 9,000 years ago by Late Epigravettian groups.

Also known as the Grotta delle Soppressate, the Grotta del Mezzogiorno opens about 80 metres above the sea between Colli di San Pietro and Positano, on a coast of high cliffs. It has a wide entrance and little depth, so much so that it looks almost like a rock shelter.Excavations in 1967 and 1968 showed that human groups lived here between 14,000 and 9,000 years ago, at the end of the last Ice Age, with stone tools attributed to the Late Epigravettian. We are moved to think of these very ancient inhabitants of the Amalfi Coast. We have no reliable information on whether it can be visited: we recommend enquiring before you go.
