A Franciscan conservatory from 1592 in Montecalvario, with frescoes by Paolo De Matteis on the church ceiling.

On Via Pasquale Scura, in Montecalvario, the complex of Santa Maria dello Splendore was founded in 1592 by the noblewoman Lucia Caracciolo as a conservatory, where she withdrew with other women under the Franciscan rule.In 1607 it was enlarged under the guidance of the Venerable Carlo Carafa. The church preserves frescoes by Paolo De Matteis on its ceiling and, in one chapel, a fine Saint Francis.
