Columbarium in Naples

Remains of a 1st-century Roman mausoleum on Via Pigna, in Soccavo, with niches for urns in opus reticulatum.

On Via Pigna, in Soccavo, the north wall survives of a Roman tomb from the 1st century AD, halfway between a columbarium and a chamber tomb. It probably served a farming settlement in the area. You can see the masonry in opus reticulatum and yellow tuff, with ten niches for urns in two rows and one larger niche. A small testimony to the countryside around Neapolis.
