Church of the Madonna del Bagno

Along the right bank of the Arvento stream, in the countryside of Gioia Sannitica, stands the small sanctuary that gives the hamlet its name. The present building is from the 18th century and was built on an older structure; around 1700 there were already a chapel and a hermitage here.Tradition tells that some shepherds found in a nearby well a roof tile bearing the image of the Madonna, and that the water of the well, which still exists, was believed to be miraculous. Inside we find a single nave with a depressed barrel vault; we recommend looking behind the altar for the sacred tile, framed in stone. We like the peace of this simple, rural place of devotion.
