Nineteenth-century church by Filippo Botta on via Duomo, built after the church of the Crociferi was demolished to widen the street.

In the piazzetta delle Crocelle ai Mannesi, along via Duomo, stands the church of San Francesco d'Assisi, which Neapolitans call "delle Crocelle". The name recalls the church of the Crociferi fathers that stood here and was demolished to widen via Duomo. The new building was designed in 1882 by Filippo Botta, raised above street level. Opposite is the church of San Giorgio Maggiore, with its early Christian apse: two nearby stops in the historic centre.
