A small church from 1695, also called del Suffragio or del Purgatorio, with a wooden statue of Our Lady of Sorrows and canvases from Solimena's school.
A few steps from the church of the Immacolata, in Casamicciola, stands this small church dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows, also known as Santa Maria del Suffragio or del Purgatorio. It was founded in 1695 and has been restored several times over the centuries, most recently in 1949. We like its intimate atmosphere.The interior has a single altar, where a wooden statue of Our Lady of Sorrows, carved, painted and dressed in fabric, is venerated. The sacristy holds two paintings: a devotional Assumption and a Holy Family by a painter from the workshop of Francesco Solimena. We recommend a stop during a walk through the town centre.
