One of the largest monastic complexes in Naples, with three cloisters and Antonio Solario's frescoes of the life of Saint Benedict.

On via Bartolommeo Capasso, near the lower decumanus, Santi Severino e Sossio is one of the largest monastic complexes in Naples: an upper and a lower church, three cloisters, a refectory, a chapter house and gardens. The Benedictines came here in the 10th century, leaving Pizzofalcone for fear of the Saracens, and brought the relics of Saint Severinus; shortly afterwards came those of Saint Sossius, companion in martyrdom of Saint Januarius. In the Cloister of the Plane Tree awaits Antonio Solario's 16th-century cycle of the stories of Saint Benedict.
